The Samaritan woman therefore said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) John 4:9 (NAS)
In the familiar story, Jesus requests a drink of water from a Samaritan woman, taking her completely by surprise. Most Jews avoided travelling through Samaria at all because of the intense animosity between them. In fact, Jesus broke through strict religious, racial, and social barriers to speak to her. She wasn’t looking for Jesus-all she wanted was water, but He had arranged a divine appointment with her and changed her life forever. Isn’t this exactly the way our Savior meets unbelievers today? The heart of Jesus is without prejudice. He actively seeks and intimately engages with people of all kinds. In order to reach the lost, you have to go where they are. In this encounter, Jesus models for us the way to change the world- one heart at a time.
Dear Lord,
Thank You so much for making Yourself known to me when I wasn’t seeking You and knew nothing about You at all. You changed my life completely, and I am forever grateful for Your love. I know there are millions of other people who need You and don’t realize it. Please help me be aware of opportunities to share Your grace and truth with those who cross my path. Use me Lord, for a divine appointment of Your making.
I love You, Lord.
Amen
