Starting everyday with the JOY of the Lord!

Friday June 6, 2025

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”    Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)

During the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, God’s people realized how much their sin had separated them from the Lord, and they wept openly at their disobedience. Nehemiah then encouraged them not only to recognize their sin, but also to allow the Lord to fill them with His love and joy, to celebrate the Lord and to share His provisions with those who had none. We do need to recognize our sins and ask for forgiveness; there may even be consequences for our sins. More than anything, however, the Lord wants us to be reconciled to Him. God desires a right relationship with His children. Once we account for our sins, He encourages us to move forward. We can celebrate God’s love and provision, and share what He has given to us with others. How wonderful to be covered in the joy and strength of the Lord!

Dear Jesus,

I know I have sinned. I realize that I sometimes walk according to my ways rather than Yours. Please forgive me for walking ahead instead of following You. I praise You for Your mercy and patience. I know You love me far more than I can fathom. Remind me to confess my sin and then leave it at your feet. I praise you for all You have provided for me and my family. Help me to notice the needs of others and be willing to share Your provision with them. I truly want to dwell in Your joy and Your strength.

I love You, Lord.

Amen.
