Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.  Psalm 139:23-24 (NAS)

Psalm 139 is a prayer of David that is both deeply personal and universally relevant. David is fully aware that God knows every thought and feeling before he speaks a word. This is not a prayer of permission, but of submission. He asks God to search his heart and mind for the purpose of self-awareness and divine renewal. We can only experience true spiritual growth if we invite God to show us the weaknesses and sins we try to bury. Then we are positioned perfectly for repentance and restoration. Make this prayer your own. There is so much to gain when you surrender all to Him.

Dear Lord,

Please search my heart and mind and shine Your light on any self-deception. Make me fully aware of my shortcomings and offenses. Uncover habits and faults that displease You. I ask You to guide me by Your faithful mercies and help me to walk in righteousness so I can honor You.

I love You, Lord.

Amen.
