Everyone carries a cell phone with them, and many Bible apps are free to download, so you can have God’s Word with you wherever you go. But do you always know exactly where to find the perfect passage to fit the need of the moment? We need more than God’s Word in our hands. We need it in our hearts. If you resist memorization or think it impossible, you deprive yourself of one of the most rewarding practices of Christian life. Ask God to show you how to accomplish memorizing His Word (different methods work for different people), then follow through faithfully. The time you spend on this discipline helps you engage with God and deepens your understanding of His thoughts and His heart. Increasingly, you will find that His thoughts become your own, and the Spirit will bring to your mind exactly the word you need in every situation.

Dear Lord,

Your Word is beautiful, powerful, perfect and profitable. The more passages I commit to memory, the more I want to learn. I pray that I will always hunger for Your Word, so that it literally becomes part of me. Thank You for this amazing gift.
