The Hebrew word for heart also means soul, reasoning, will, and emotions. Our decisions, behavior, and moral character all flow from this place, and we are wisely exhorted to guard it. This means keeping watch over our heart to protect it from negative influences, and also searching and examining it to keep it from leading us to foolish choices. When we give our hearts to God, He unites our heart with His and guards it in both ways. Our part is to seek Him in Scripture and prayer and genuinely submit to His will and purposes for us.

Dear Lord,

I want to know You more, to understand Your heart and submit to Your pathway and plans for me. I treasure Your Word and thank You for speaking to me with every reading. You are a good, good Father. Thank You for protecting and caring for me.
