Gideon then said to God, “Don’t be angry with me; let me speak one more time. Please allow me to make one more test with the fleece. Let it remain dry, and the dew be all over the ground.” Judges 6:39 (HCSB)
Give me understanding according to Your word. Psalm 119:169b (HCSB)
If we genuinely want to follow the Lord, we need to listen well to what He says. But it’s natural to wonder if the leading we sense is truly from Him. So how can we improve our ability to discern His voice? God knows us completely, and He understands our self-doubt. He has given us several ways to affirm His direction. One of these is to stay in the Word. God will never lead you to do anything that contradicts Scripture. It is our lifeline. He also uses fellow believers to help us. Take counsel from your pastor or a good friend who is spiritually mature. Above all, pray for wisdom (James 1:5). Ask the Holy Spirit to knit His thoughts and His will into your mind and heart. He delights to speak to us. It’s one of the blessings of salvation.
Dear Lord,
It is by Your favor alone that You speak to me. Help me to silence the noise of the world and listen carefully to You. Thank You for Your Word and for the people in my life who help me to stay on course. Please help me continue to move forward with You.
I love You, lord.
Amen.
