Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.   Galatians 5: 24-25 (NAS)

We are meant to live by the Spirit of God, who indwells us from the moment of our salvation. However, the Spirit and the flesh are in constant conflict while we remain on this side of heaven. In the flesh, people rely on self to achieve earthly security. In the Spirit, we rely on God for eternal security, beginning here and now. We live the Christian life in the same way we were saved -by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gives wisdom for the choices we face, conviction when we begin to stray, and guidance as we seek to follow Jesus. Yes, the flesh will try to tempt us to turn to worldly ways, but the Spirit is more powerful than the flesh. He is our victory. We have only to ask, listen, trust and obey.

Dear Lord,

My heart’s cry is to be led by Your Spirit in every part of my life. My own thoughts can become confused and distracted, but Your ways are perfect and Your direction is always right. Remind me to keep my eyes on You, that I may truly walk by the Spirit.

I love You, Lord.
