I know that You can do anything and no plan of Yours can be thwarted. You asked, “Who is this who conceals my counsel in ignorance?” Surely I spoke about things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. Job 42: 2-3 (HCSB)
We tend to live with a cause-and-effect mindset and often wonder why bad things happen. The truth is that there usually isn’t one clear reason. Evil, sin and sickness are very much in existence, and although God’s world is good, it isn’t always safe. He doesn’t necessarily show us a reason for personal hardship or disastrous, large-scale suffering. We don’t have sufficient understanding to grasp all the complexities of life, and we should not expect God to conform to our perception. The entire book of Job invites us to trust God’s wisdom when we encounter adversity rather than trying to find a reason for it. We may struggle, but if struggling brings us to our knees in prayer, it has already accomplished a very good thing. Our most perfect position is humility before the Lord.
Dear Lord,
I never mean to question Your ways. You are God and I am not, and I am grateful that I can bring all my pain and worries to You. Your wisdom is endless and You are always good. Thank You for being in complete control. Thank You for loving me.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
