And David said, “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion, and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:37a (NAS)
Times of trial and suffering come to everyone and can drain us physically and emotionally. Pain clouds our thinking, and the “what-ifs” begin to dominate our minds. If we allow them to take hold, the situation can utterly deplete us. But we have a sovereign God who loves us and knows exactly what we are facing. We can raise our shield of faith by remembering His faithfulness. Like David, we can call to mind the incredible blessings He has poured out on us in the past, and the times He has intervened in ways that can only have been Him. First in magnitude is the gift of salvation He freely bestowed on us. Start there. How will He not also continue to care for us now?
Dear Lord,
You know my mind, my worries and concerns. But when they threaten to overwhelm me, I hear the Holy Spirit whisper, “Don’t you remember…?”, and I do. I remember Your steadfast faithfulness. I recall Your presence and strength, and I choose faith. I choose to trust in You. You are my King.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
