I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. John 15:5
With the “I am” statement here, Jesus establishes Himself as the Omnipotent God of heaven and earth; then in a few words, He sums up the Christian walk. Our responsibility is not to bear fruit, but to abide in Him. Abiding is an active, continual choice you make to be in fellowship with Jesus, to love Him, love His Word, and stay close to Him in prayer and worship. The relationship is mutual. If you choose to abide in Him, He will abide in you, supplying you with all the nourishment, strength, and life you need. Then He will produce abundant spiritual fruit through you. Parted from Him, you can do nothing.
Dear Lord Jesus,
I choose to abide in You, to seek You daily- even moment by moment. I am overwhelmed by the idea that You desire to abide in me, but I know it’s true. I have known Your Spirit within me, and I pray that You will help me always to live with the consciousness of Your presence.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
