Now may the God of all hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NAS)
Paul, when he penned these words, knew well that joy is a spiritual gift offered to all believers. It is important to realize that joy and happiness are not the same. Happiness depends on circumstances. It is generally fueled by people, position, possessions, and the approval and affirmation we receive from others. But situations change continually, and people often let us down. Happiness is a fleeting emotion. Joy, on the other hand, is a settled conviction about God Himself. Joy comes by trusting Him completely, believing that He knows all the details of our lives and that He is in control. We make a conscious choice to receive the gift of joy and allow the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts.
Dear Lord,
Thank you for always loving me. Open my eyes to see Your goodness and help me to trust that You work all things together for good. Thank you for Your provision and Your promises and help me remember to share the joy of Your love with others.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
