For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NAS)
In this Scripture, Paul focuses on the three main themes valued by the cultures he is addressing. The Hebrews valued light, the Greeks treasured knowledge, and the Romans cherished glory. No matter who the letter was read to, Paul shows them that Christ is the ultimate fulfillment of all they could ever want. Only the light of the gospel can penetrate the darkness of unbelief within every heart and spirit. But He also takes it one step further. Just as God spoke the light into creation, He then ascribed it into the face of Christ, thereby focusing all thoughts on Jesus, the Messiah, who was and is and evermore shall be.
Most Gracious Heavenly Father,
You alone can make the same Scripture applicable twenty-five hundred ago and today. Thank You for Your omniscience and Your grace. Please keep me mindful of every opportunity to share what You have done in my life with others who may not know.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
