God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”  John 4:24, 26 (NAS)

Jesus comes to the heart of His encounter with the Samaritan woman with this statement and by straightforwardly revealing Himself as the Christ – the long-awaited Messiah. In other words, the time had come for a radical change in the way people worshiped. From this time on, the true meeting place with God would be through Jesus. He would be the new temple (John 2:21). True worship comes from spirits made alive and sensitive to God by new birth in Jesus. He breaks through every ethnic barrier, revealing that worship is a matter of the heart and accessible to all who believe in Him. No one can offer an acceptable act of worship without Jesus Himself opening the way.

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for opening my eyes to the truth of salvation by grace through faith in You. I offer You my heart with joy and pray that I will never lose sight of the gift of worshiping You in spirit and truth.

I love You, Lord.

Amen.
