And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42 (NAS)
It’s exciting to be part of the body of Christ! We are connected to each other and to the saints who have gone before us. The early Christians were devoted to the teaching of the apostles, who taught the words and life of Jesus. The apostles were there. They knew Him, touched Him, and walked with Him. They taught who Jesus was, what He did, and why. This was the foundation of the church. The new believers lived in fellowship, loving and serving one another, encouraging and building each other up-not just for enjoyment, but from a commitment to the Christ life. We also know that they were devout in sharing the Lord’s Supper. The memorial meal was central to their gathering, as it represented spiritual union with Christ- a poignant reminder of His sacrifice. In addition, they were dedicated to prayer, which is essential to Christian life. The world is searching for meaning and truth. We have that, and people should be able to tell.
Dear Lord,
The world has gotten faster and busier than it was at the time when Jesus walked here, but the essentials haven’t changed. We want to draw others to You- help us serve You with joy. Help us be sensitive to the physical and spiritual needs of those around us and may all our service be dedicated to You.
I love You, Lord.
Amen
