Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NAS)
This is Paul’s benediction on the church in Rome, and on us as well. The Lord is the source of all blessings, and those who trust Jesus as Lord and Savior receive the blessing of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It is He who offers us the hope that produces joy and peace even through trials that come our way. This is hope beyond what we ourselves can produce, but God fills us to overflowing, beyond our capacity to hold it in. Our hope is much more than wishful thinking – it is confident expectation, founded on God’s faithfulness. How are we filled? In believing. We live by God’s promises; you are loved, forgiven, and adopted into His family. In believing, we have abundant joy and deep peace by the power of the Holy Spirit, and the desire and strength to live the Christian life. Hope produces joy and peace. When joy and peace flourish in us, hope abounds still more, and multiplies our peace and joy. It is a beautiful cycle that changes the way we live.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for Your love and mercy. I am deeply grateful to be called Your child; I cling to Your promises. I pray that by the power of the Holy Spirit I will live faithfully, honoring You above all. Keep me mindful of the influence I can have on others, who may be drawn to You by the hope, joy, and peace You have lavished on me.
I love You, Lord.
Amen
