Open my eyes that I may behold wonderful things from Thy law.   Psalm 119:18 (NAS)

This is a simple, powerful prayer that every believer should pray.  The psalmist asks God to open his eyes – he refers to the eyes of his heart, and remove the veil that covers them; to heal his spiritual blindness and reveal supernatural truth. David knows there are deep things in the Word that are not perceived by the natural man. He asks for illumination to disclose these things -to understand Divine wisdom. The psalmist already reads the Word and memorizes it, (V.11), shares it, (v. 13) and delights in it, (v.16), but he knows there is more, and entreats God to reveal it to him.  Think about it- God breathed a book into existence that He knows we could not understand without His help; then invites us to ask for help, and bestows it on us generously. What an amazing God we serve!

Dear Heavenly Father,

Like David, I ask You to give me greater understanding of Your Word. Uncover my spiritual eyes, Lord, and disclose the deeper meaning of the Scriptures I read each day. I know we will not completely know You while we are in this world, but I ask You to speak to my heart everything You have for me.

I love You, Lord.
