“Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:20 (NLT) 

These are Jesus’ final words to His disciples before His ascension. He gives them instruction, and assures them that He will always be with them- an important reminder to men who had just endured the greatest loss in their lives- His crucifixion.

It is hard to say goodbye to those we love, and it happens in many ways. From a child’s first day of school to the passing of someone dear to us, the sadness is real. We can’t prevent changes- we have to learn to let go. We make sure they know we love them, and take the next step in our lives. In giving His disciples direction for the next step in their lives, Jesus reminds them that He will never leave them. This is the only relationship that never ends; there is no goodbye with Jesus.

Dear Lord Jesus,      

Ther are so many partings in life, and some we never really get over. What a blessing it is that You never leave us! You have walked with me through pain and sorrow. You have strengthened me when I am weak, encouraged me when I despair, and loved me more than I ever imagined possible. Thank You for being closer than any friend or brother.

I love You, Lord.
