“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of my hand.”                                   John 10: 27-28 (NAS)

Sheep cannot take care of themselves – without a shepherd, they would die. But they have the special ability to recognize the voice of their shepherd, and they will not follow anyone else. Like sheep, we are dependent on our Shepherd. Left on our own, we wander from the flock and make unwise choices.  But to those who are of His flock, Jesus is the great and faithful Shepherd. He leads, guides, and protects His sheep, providing everything they need and keeping them safe. Only His true sheep hear His voice and follow Him.  We know Him and we are known by Him in a relationship of trust and obedience. He knows each one in His flock individually.  He is attentive, and He has promised that nothing can remove us from His hand. His sheep are eternally secure. The hands that created the world hold on to the believer. True sheep hear their Shepherd’s voice and follow Him, and live eternally in His care.

Lord Jesus,

Thank You for calling me to be one of Your sheep. I hear Your voice, and I want to heed it in every way. I am utterly dependent on You, and I am so grateful to be counted in the flock of the true Shepherd.

I love You, Lord.

Amen
