May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Rom 15:13 (NIV)
Is your heart full of hope today, or do you feel depleted and empty? The feeling of hopelessness usually arises when we seek strength from anything other than the Lord. When we place our hope on jobs, bank accounts, or the favor of other people, it can quickly turn to despair. Dependence upon ourselves and others will only bring temporary hope and peace, and ultimately results in disappointment. Re-read today’s verse. Paul tells us that God is the one true source of hope. Since He is the source of hope, we need always to go straight to the source. We need to hand over our burdens to God. Only He can carry all the troubles of this world. We can trust God, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be filled to overflowing with true hope, joy, and peace. They are found only in Him.
Dear Lord,
Please forgive me for depending on myself instead of You. I praise you for your mighty power and endless compassion. Help me remember that true peace and joy can only be found by trusting You. Thank you, Lord, for the real hope we have in You.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
