You reveal the path of life to me; in Your presence is abundant joy; in Your right hand are eternal pleasures. Ps 16:11 (HCSB)
There is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness depends on our current circumstances. Joy on the other hand, has a much deeper, long-lasting meaning. Joy is found when we dwell in the presence of God. We can have joy despite our present position and problems. Are you in a season of storms and trouble? Does joy seem far away from you in your current situation? Happiness is fleeting, but we can fully experience joy amid troubles and challenges. It is found in God alone. When we turn our focus on Him, He will direct our path and give us His joy. Happiness is based on the temporary and joy the eternal. Choose Him; dwell in His presence. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”
Dear Lord,
Please help me to keep my eyes focused on you and not on the problems in life. When troubles threaten to consume me, help me to remember that joy comes from You. Please forgive me when I look elsewhere to get my strength. Your love and power are more than I could ever comprehend, and all that I could ever ask for.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
