“But only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”  Luke 10:42 (NAS)

Truthfully speaking, this verse may annoy us a bit. After all, there are many things that just have to be done, and plenty of them are your responsibility. But Jesus is speaking about the attitude of our hearts. The to-do list should never overshadow our ability to sit at His feet and listen, so we are renewed and ready for the day ahead. When they were face-to-face with Jesus, Mary chose worship and Martha chose worry.

Can you “un-busy” yourself enough to take time to hear God’s voice? It will always be your best choice- even if the bed is left unmade and some clothes are on the floor.

Lord Jesus,

You know that I have dozens of earthly responsibilities, and I believe You want me to do them well. Thank You for reminding me though, that positioning myself to sit at Your feet before I rise to get on with the duties of my day is always my best choice. You refresh and renew me and enable me to honor You in all that lies before me.

I love You, Lord.

Amen
