Share in the suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. 2 Timothy 2:3-4 ESV
As a follower of Christ, I am not guaranteed a life without suffering. In fact, in a dark world that is opposed to Christ, I can expect opposition to my faith. Timothy’s analogy of a soldier in the army of God can give me focus and courage. Just as a new recruit keeps his or her eyes on the commanding officer while learning to march, I must train my eyes to stay fixed on Christ.
Heavenly Father,
I want to serve You well. As a soldier for You, I know I will face opposition. Help me keep my eyes focused on You and go where You lead me, not getting distracted by less important tasks. Give me courage in the battle, knowing that You have already won the victory over evil. Thank You for being my all-powerful, all-knowing Commander who holds my life in Your hands.
I love You, Lord.
Amen.
