And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My god, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:46 ESV
How can it be that the most tragic event in human history is simultaneously the most glorious? My sinless Savior was sentenced to death by the people He came to save. It appeared that evil had won.
But God!
Jesus suffered the wrath that I deserve. He was forsaken by His Father so that I would never be forsaken by Him. What kind of love is this? “How deep the Father’s love for us. How vast beyond all measure; that He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure.”
Heavenly Father,
I will never fully comprehend the suffering You endured on my behalf. My heart overflows with gratitude for offering me the cup of mercy instead of giving me what I deserve. Help me to live my life as a living sacrifice to You, my King. Send me to people who need to drink of Your mercy this week as we celebrate Your resurrection.
I Love You, Lord.
Amen
