Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. Philippians 2:14-16 ESV

Have you ever been puzzled that the Israelites grumbled against God after being rescued from Egypt and witnessing the Red Sea parting, manna falling from heaven, and countless other miracles?  Their complaining revealed a lack of trust in God.  But how often do I do the exact same thing?  In these verses, Paul connects our attitude with our witness to a watching world.  We can be shining lights for Him when the world sees our faith in the One who provides for our every need. 

Heavenly Father,

You are trustworthy and faithful to provide all that I need.  You are the Bread of Life.  Forgive me when I show discontentment instead of gratitude.  Help me not just to be content with what You provide, but to be overflowing with joy and thanksgiving for the grace that You lavish upon me.  When I am tempted to grumble, turn my words into praise and thanksgiving.  Today I choose to count my blessings and name them one by one.
