Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”- yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.  What is your life?  For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.  Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”  James 4:13-15 ESV

How often have my schedule and agenda been thwarted by unexpected circumstances?  I really like to be in control, but truthfully my days are under the sovereign control of Almighty God.  I may not know for certain what will happen today, tomorrow, or next week, but as a believer, I can be completely confident that His presence will be with me and that whatever happens to me today is for my ultimate good and for His glory.   

Heavenly Father,

Thank you that every one of my days have been ordained by You.  Help me to plan wisely, but to hold those plans loosely and be willing and eager to be interrupted by Your greater plan.  Thank you for being my Good Shepherd, leading, helping, and comforting me through the trials of this life.  Take away any anxiety that I may have about the future and fill me with Your peace that passes understanding.  Thank you that my eternal future is secure in Your loving grasp.  Help me to make the most of this earthly “wisp” of time that You have given me.  Help me to seek Your will above all things.
