Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, Ephesians 6:14 (NIV)
Paul uses the example of a Roman soldier’s armor to highlight the importance of each spiritual component of the Armor of God. The belt of truth represents being firmly rooted in God’s Word. The breastplate, which protected a soldier’s vital organs, symbolizes living in God’s will and under His protection. It also served as a means of identification for soldiers. Do you equip yourself daily with the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness? Does your behavior and lifestyle identify you as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ?
Dear Heavenly Father,
All glory belongs to you! I humbly approach Your throne of grace not because of what You have done for me but because of who You are. Lord, I often lose my way; I am easily distracted and feel overwhelmed by the chaos of this world. Please empower me, Lord, by Your Holy Spirit, to keep my eyes and heart focused on You and Your Word. Remind me to wear my belt and breastplate today. Enable me to recall Scripture to battle the demonic forces that I encounter each day. Lord, remind me to take comfort in You – my Provider, My Savior, and My Rock. I place all my trust in You to guide me through the challenges of this day.
I love you, Lord, Amen.
